Aly- what’s your favorite Hellcats moment?
My favorite Aly moment on Hellcats was when I fell asleep during a set up. Ashley and I were both on set and had been working an 18 hour day. I was all cozy on my dorm bed and literally fell asleep while the crew started to set up for our last shot of the night. The director started to call action and suddenly I hear Ashley go “um guys, I think Aly’s asleep”. It was a classic moment on the Hellcats set.

What’s your favorite song?
Our personal favorite 78violet song from our previous records would have to be “Closure” and “Flattery”. Those two songs meant so much to us at the time we wrote them, and they still carry the same weight emotionally. Right now we’re really loving a song we just wrote called 8 Hours.

Which song have you gals recorded that you relate to the most?
The song we most relate to right now is from our unreleased record. It’s a song called “Freak”. I think we can all feel different and forgotten in this world, but its important to know that we all have these feelings as humans….and we can get past those moments with good friends.

Who would you like to collaborate with musically?
I think the band we would most love to collaborate with would be U2. AJ and I would be so honored if we ever had the chance to work with them. They are true artists who have continued to inspire people with their music and philanthropy.

The epitome of Young Hollywood, AJ (Amanda) Michalka is undeniably talented in both music and acting. Arriving to her photo shoot to the Kaplan’s personal house in Westlake, CA, Michalka was filled with genuine excitement after admiring the clothing rack that was rested out for her to take a look. Her older sister Aly, who graced the February/March 2011 issue of Zooey, also stopped by to rave over how striking AJ looked by the poolside. In nothing but color and patterns, AJ was everything pleasant, splendor, and more.

While Aly has been filming in Vancouver for her CW television series Hellcats, AJ has been pursuing a movie career. AJ, who has already been in the spotlight since her elementary years, can be seen in the upcoming J.J Abrams’ and Steven Spielberg’s movie Super 8.

“[Director] JJ Abrams is such an incredible visionary,” says AJ, “People are going to be blown away.” The movie, which premiered on June 10th, stars young talents Elle Fanning, Ryan Lee, and Gabriel Basso whom all portray a group of friends in the summer of 1979. The three middle school children begin noticing supernatural excitement in their small town and seek to discover what it all is.

AJ stars as the older sister of one of the lead boys in Super 8. “The chemistry on screen was great between us! Our characters have a lot sibling rivalry going on for sure.” She was also able to flaunt her sexuality in the movie with actor David Gallagher (7th Heaven). “I have a great scene with David Gallagher where my character definitely uses her sexuality as a ploy. Something I would not recommend in real life but it was very fun to play.”

Produced by acclaimed director and producer Spielberg, AJ was thrilled to have met him. “He could not be more down to earth and kind,” she describes. “The combination of he and JJ is brilliant. The vibe on set was very easy going. JJ uses a lot of the same crew on all of his projects so there are no attitudes involved. It is all about the work.”

J.J. Abrams new super mysterious film “Super 8″ comes out today and  GlobalGrind got a chance to chat it up with one of it’s stars Amanda Michalka. The movie is about a group of friends who witness a catastrophic train crash  while making a movie on super 8 film and soon suspect that it was not an  accident. After that, there are unusual disappearances and inexplicable events  that start to take place in the town. Everyone begins to suspect that what is happening is much more then they  think. This movie sounds pretty suspenseful and we got the low down straight from  Amanda herself. Check it out!

So when you work with someone like J.J. Abrams and Spielberg, you  learn something. What’s one thing you learned from watching them do their  thing?

You know what, the cool thing about them is that it  never gets old. I mean, they’ve been doing this for so long and still have this  driving passion and love for what they do. And that to me is the most  encouraging thing and that’s how I feel about my career. So I watch JJ and how  he works with these kids and adults. He’s just so good with everyone and lets  actors kind of do their own thing and take the reigns themselves and go with  their instincts. That to me is really cool, because he lets you improve and have  fun but he’s also an amazing director.

Back in the day, people shot with super 8, but we think today’s super  8 is the iPhone. What’s the last thing you shot on your phone?

Last thing I shot on my phone, I actually bought the Super 8 app. a couple of  weeks ago and I shot a mini dog film. And it literally stars my four dogs,  Bandit, Roddy, Money Penny and Willow and it is a joke. I tried to do this  really cool deep voice over voice and it didn’t work at all.

Can we hear a little bit of that?

It was like …’One dog 1969, one dog born in 1973, will they take over the  world??’ It’s like so bad but I tried, I tried really hard. But I sent it to JJ,  I was like, JJ you have to check out this movie I did, I think it might beat  “Super 8.” He was laughing, it was really funny.

We’re looking forward to the release of that. What’s it called again,  the dog movie?

The dog movie, I haven’t really worked on a title yet. It’s called ‘War of 4  Dogs,’ that’s what I’m calling it currently but it’s still pending.

A few weeks ago, Zap2it attended a press junket with the cast and Kevin Murphy, the creator of “Hellcats,” who let us in on a few of his Season 2 plans. At the time, Murphy expressed confidence in a Season 2 pickup, telling reporters that the network and studio were supportive of extending the series.

Now that the show has been axed, here’s a bit of what you would have seen had the series lived on.

The return of the love triangle! The Marti/Dan/Savannah situation wasn’t explored much in the second half of the season, but it certainly wasn’t over.
Murphy confirms that they pulled back from that story with the intention of returning to it in Season 2.

Dan in real life. Now that Dan Patch was accepted to Lancer University, he was set to have some more central storylines next season. “He’s always either been the boyfriend of Savannah or the friend of Marti. I really wanted to be able to give him more points of access to Alice and Lewis and Vanessa and everyone else.”

Which brings us to… Dan as a cheerleader? “We almost got there in the finale, but we had to cut it for length because it was running so long,” says Murphy. “We went as far as we had him in a Hellcats uniform. We never shot it, but we’ll get there.”

More A.J. Michalka. Murphy planned for AJ to recur, “but in my heart, she’s a regular,” he adds. He intended to continue AJ’s character into next season despite the blow up at the end of the episode.

More concept episodes, like the Zombie movie episode. “We want to go back to the genre well,” Murphy says. “We could do aliens, maybe post-apocalyptic cheerleaders, a Western.” “Cheerleaders in the hood,” added series star Robbie Jones.

Returning guest stars. In addition to A.J., Murphy mentioned that he hoped to have Ciara return to the show. When we spoke with the pop star, she was on board for a return.

Directed by Tom Welling. During Season 1, executive producer Tom Welling had to dedicate most of his time to starring in the final season of ”Smallville” — and directing a few episodes. He’s very proud of “Hellcats” and was looking forward to directing episodes of Season 2.

It’s quite sad to see AJ talking about Hellcats and being excited to be part of the cast. At least we still know a record is on its way!
